One of the topics where the rivalry is very tensed is in the area of who cooks a better jollof rice (a popular West African dish)?
In August 2019, two chefs from Ghana and Nigeria entered a battle (The ‘De Onga Jollof Battle’) that took place in Accra Ghana to find out which country prepares the best Jollof.
After the judges tasted both plates of Jollof, all three judges from Ghana, Nigeria and SouthAfrica voted in favour of Ghana Jollof. The final results were Ghana Jollof 95%, Nigeria Jollof 75%.

This rivalry has also been extended to music. While Nigeria claims Afrobeat, Ghanaians also have their version known as Hiplife, but no doubt both countries have produced talented artists that have captured global attention, for example, likes of Burna boy, WIZKID, Davido from Nigeria and R2BEES, SARKODIE and Chatta Wale from Ghana.
