Another Nigerian has made the country proud again in Europe. Professor of veterinary medicine, Ade Ojeniyi, has been conferred with an award, the Knighthood of The Dannebrog Order of the Kingdom of Denmark by Queen Margrethe 11of Denmark .

Ojeniyi who lives in Grindsted, Denmark received one of the highest awards in Denmark established in 1683 by the King of Denmark. Ojeniyi was recommended by the Southern Regional government in Denmark  because of his enormous contribution to health and humanity in the European country including the introduction of a vaccination to fight cervical cancer in Greenland in 2007. As the Chief Physician and Medical Adviser to the government of Greenland, Ojeniyi introduced the vaccination against cervical cancer making Greenland the first country in the world to start vaccinating girls against cervical cancer.

Ojeniyi who has been a visiting professor at the University of Texas in Houston for 18 years was nominated by the university after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack, to deliver a lecture on biological weapons.

Ojeniyi  was extremely happy to receive the award because it was a victory for Nigeria and Africa as whole.  “I dedicate the award to the continent of Africa and her people. I am a representative of the continent, which is the origin of mankind,” he said.
